Thrilled to announce that after a lot of polish from the rest of the team, all of our hard work has paid off and my authentication library, Shield, is now the first official authentication/authorization solution available for CodeIgniter. Ever.

It’s released tonight in beta, and already future work is happening, as Kenjis has started putting together JWT support for it.

This is something that has been requested for a long time, and I’m thrilled to have been able to play such a major role in bringing it to the community. Can’t wait to see how it grows and what people use it in.

As a side note – CodeIgniter 4.2 is super close to being released, as well. Expect that in the next week, I imagine, mainly thanks to the tireless efforts of Kenjis.

Next week I’ll update Bonfire to use the new versions of both of those. Looking forward to that as the new View Decorators in CodeIgniter will remove the need for hacking the View class.

Over the next couple of months I plan on releasing a short series covering Shield and how to use it in your project. While 1 or 2 might be available to everyone, the majority of them will only be available to my patrons, without whom I couldn’t keep doing all of this.
